Karin Smith - Photographs Sunsets South West Cork
Photography has been a passion of mine for many years. I started taking photos as a hobby
back in 1985. In 1996 my photographs became available for public consumpion on Web sites
I was deveoping. At the time i was happy to see my pictures on other web sites. Now after
over ten years on the web and a move back to Ireland at the end of 2003. Follwed by 2 years
of student life obtaining a FETAC award in Art, Craft and Design @ Rossa College, Skibbereen.
All serious photographers look to find a unique element to their photographs. I really get into
the negative space, and as such use the back drop of trees in negative against the setting of
the sun. I would like to reflect both my love of the environment I live in and a love of the
medium I chossen to use as an expression.
This project has been over a 3 years in the making now finally I feel I have enough of a
collection to release it to the public. My pictures are taken with digital cameras but I do
not put any effects on them. They are just as it came naturally I was just lucky enough to
be there to record them with my camera.

Karin Smith Photography – Artists Statement
My interest in photography started in my late teens and continued as a hobby for many
years. In the late 1990's my interest became more than a hobby, with my photographs
being available on many world wide web sites to accompany site content on neiche market
sites. On returning to Ireland in 2003 and attending a FETAC Art, Craft + Design course
2004-2006 my interest in photography was once again ignited.
My passion for photography
was fueled by the natural beauty of West Cork Sunsets. I am really into Negative space
and use this to best advantage in my work. Being inspired by the sunsets here in West
Cork I embarked on a project that would last three years. At present I use a Nikon
digital camera to capture these West Cork Sunsets but I make a point of NOT Altering
the images digitally. They are just as God Gave them up for us to enjoy. My photographs
are produced on High Quality Photographic Paper and much care is taken in the selection
of the mounts and frame.
