Island Crafts of ..

Cape Clear, Sherkin, Heir + Long Islands

The Island Crafts + Information Center. The Pier, Baltimore, Co. Cork

When you visit The Island Crafts outlet in Baltimore you could be greeted by one of seven of the ladies who man the shop. Working a rota system of one day a week the day we visited Sue Cleary is in attendance.

Sherkin Island has for many years supported a thriving craft industry. Boasting a variety of landscapes, an abundance of wildlife and botanical riches which is reflected in the many textures and colours used by the craft workers.

Sherkin Island Knitwear is registered member of the Craft Council of Ireland. A cooperative producing hand loomed knitwear in pure Donegal tweed wool. Designs are both original and classic coming in a variety of rich colours with hand fired matching buttons.

Cape Clear pottery is produced on the island. Helen O'Driscol hand throws and decorates using traditional skills. The clay is stoneware and is oven, microwave and dishwasher proof.

Maisey Parker and Lena Mansson supply the outlet with painted glassware.

Lush Life Jewellery reflecting on the abundant marine life of the island. Sherkin Island Silver features gemstones. Designed by Miriam Dunne
