Title: Great Plans Size: 38 x 38 cm Medium: Shades of grays to black were hand stitched on cotton Price: € 900 These artworks have been stretched over a box canvas, and is placed floating within the frame and protected by glass Artist Statement: This study entitled Experience demonstrates my need, almost compulsion for stitching, as a method of drawing. The mark making has never been so expressive and crucial, where every line and it's length or direction is vital to the intensity of the piece. Yet the simple use of a needle and thread, as a method of drawing a portrait/ life model, is at once humbling and empowering to work with. From the simplest of materials an image is pulled from the fabric, one stitch at a time, over and over again. The challenge is to try to capture a fleeting moment in time, to convey the essence of the subject. My aim was to show only essential fragments of the man, allowing him to emerge out of a tangible ground. What to leave out was as important as what I chose to leave in. |
