Title: Fields of Barley Size: 41 x 41 cm Medium: Oil on canvas Price: € 220 Artists statement: I was a traditional painter most of my life, I studied "still life" at Crawford Collage of Art way back in the sixties. I got the golden opportunity to study and get an hons degree as a mature student later on in life, I graduated in 2002 at the tender age of 62. I loved working with young people , soon I ventured into "mixed media" abstract, textiles and started experimenting at mixing medias together , which included plaster, and glass. I was described once as a "fearless artist" it was one of the best reviews I ever got. I now paint from the heart and have discovered my own style. Oils are my favorite medium at the moment, I find I can make the paint flow at the same pace as I think, if that makes sense. As well as using a brush I also use my fingers or maybe some card. The Fields of Barley: I painted this after seeing the film, I was so angry at the waste of life and the horror of Civil War, I started the painting with a serene blue sky , but as my anger emerged I started scratching into it , I divided the picture in three , the dark in the centre subdued it a little, by the time I got to the "Barley" I just dug into the paint with the handle of the brush. I did intend to paint in precious "ears of corn" i decided against it as every time i look at this painting i can feel what i felt when i painted it, the red in the right hand corner signifies the blood that was spilt. |
